Hey Airdale,

Built the cowl from the three parts. Fit it to the plane with the engine. Then get some medium weight fibreglass cloth and ZPoxy finishing resin. Roughen the inside of the cowl with sandpaper and put two layers of cloth in convenient pieces covering the complete inside of the cowl.

It's a fun project and has worked well for me. If you bust up that cowl in a crash you can replace it with a fibreglass one.

HI all, I have built 6 CG 300's and I'm just about ready to cover my newest back up plane. I love flying my 300 with a Saito 180 turning a 16/10 prop. I feel their is no need to enlarge the rudder, just add more throw and use a 100 oz servo, I can knife edge all around the field , that really impressess the other flyers I use a 16 oz tank for fuel and pce the tank pretty close to the CG. I use 2 servos in the tail for the elevator and a 1400 mah battery and everything balances.
I also place some carbon fiber on the weakes place on the plane, I"ve had it snap in half on a not so hard landing.

Here's Mine all finished... picking up some wheel pants in Toledo next friday. Has a Tupertigre .91 and JR radio. Used a 13 ounce graupner tank in it. What prop should I use on it ? Suggestions ? I just tossed on a prop for the pics so it would look ok. Need to run a tank or 2 thru the motor and give it a shot here soon !

I need some advice on the fuel tank for this plane. Can anyone tell me what you are using for a fuel tank? It seems to be tight.

I maidened my Extra yesterday, and put three more flights on it today. It is really a great flying plane. I ordered the Graupner tank from Hobby Lobby. I am using an MDS 1.48 (17x8 apc) for power. This gives me unlimited vertical.

Does anyone have a good suggestion for some landing gear to keep this plane from nosing over?

Hi Guys,
I've just brought my self a damaged CG Extra 60, which I'm rebuilding, one question though, who covers, and who paints.

The original model was covered then painted, its just that I've always covered my models in solar film.

Pros and cons of both??

Question about engine installation. I am going to install a YS 120 with a pitts style muffler. I was planning on installing it inverted but looking at some of the pics with engine installations, they are all at a 90. Will there be a problem mounting inverted?

I put a YS 120 in mine with 17.5 oz fuel tank the final weight is 9.9 pound am scared about landing because am overweight
can you tel me how long you can run your Saito 180 with your 16 oz and tel me how are your landing with this big engine (I think your nearly 10 pounds)

last summer I had a less weight engine without glow driver and my plane weight was 9.2 and the landing was like a trainer and now am scared about lost this nices flying caracteristics

dont use tnt carbon landing gear mine it broke at the first landing and TNT dont reponse to my mail about the guarantee

I built one around 8 years ago, and I trashed the abs cockpit that came with it and built one out of balsa, much neater and better. I also second the two servos in the wing and on elevators. I also run a 1/4 scale Hitec servo on the rudder. Have had to replace the rudder servo once, and one of the elevator servos. Sure was thankful there were two on the elevator. I have aluminum gear and fiberglass cowl. Running a ST.75 with a Slimline muffler off of a ST.90. The .75 seems to have more power than the .90 ever had.

I have an old CG extra 300 that I got from a club member. He flew it with a YS 120. I used a 1.08 Mag with a 15x8. It flew great and had good power but the Mag was very unreliable. It had many air leaks and always deadsticked. I pulled it off and need a new motor. How is the ST 90's and what prop? I don't want another poor running Chinese engine and are the new ST any good. I love the way it flys and would like to build another one after my Skybolt is done.

I had my Extra for 13 years before selling it to a club member. There is not a finer 60-size acrobat on the market in my opinion. This first aircraft I recommend to anyone who wants to learn precision acrobatics. Dave Patrick has some of the best aerobatic designs out there and his recommendations are solid.

These airplanes fly well even at 10 pounds. However, 8 ½ pounds and under is really where this airplane shines. Mine was just a tad over 7 ½ pounds and used an OS91 FS for power. At that weight the performance was close to unlimited.

The ABS cowl will fall apart over time but is light compared to the fiberglass ones available, choose wisely. I had a fiberglass cowl on mine from RC city and was really light and thin, but the company is out of business now.

Not much help on the nose over issues other than mounting the gear more forward if that’s even possible. If I remember, the gear was almost as far forward as it could go. I just used lots of up elevator and quick bursts of throttle when in the higher grass. You may want to check [link=http://www.fiber-lite.com/]Fiber-Lite [/link] for gear. They make gear for other airplanes that may fit the Extra.

As mentioned before, Gruapner makes square tanks that fit right in without shoehorning them in. Keep this airplane light and avoid adding extra goodies and this airplane will treat you right. I have a new one still in the box I’ll be converting to 3d with likely a YS 110 when I get some other projects done.

I Painted the inside, It actually makes it shine with the clear plastic on the outside so the paint matched the Monokote a little better.
