Lots of people, particularly out of towners, show up for the OEAF events on the Wednesday or Thursday prior to enjoy some practice and test flying time. Nobody is test flying during the actual event...

That is pretty much the idea behind fowler flaps and you would not want to seal the gap. Nor do they do so on the full size. Allowing the air to travel over the top surface of the flap increases...

They are darn near impossible to get. A friend of mine cracked his and was unable to find a replacement so he ordered a TF Razorback canopy which actually fits pretty decent.
